A duplex steel check valve is a non-return valve manufactured of duplex stainless steel, an alloy with a microstructure that includes both austenite and ferrite phases. This combination results in much stronger strength and corrosion resistance than conventional stainless steels such as 304 or 316. Duplex steel check valves are designed to enable fluid to flow in just one direction while automatically preventing backflow. This helps protect pumps, compressors, and piping systems against reverse flow or water hammer effects.

The valve body, disc, and other wetted components are manufactured of duplex grades such UNS S32205 or S31803, which provide exceptional mechanical strength and durability even at high pressures and temperatures. The valve works automatically and without external control: when fluid flows in the right direction, pressure pushes the disc open; when flow reverses, gravity or a spring mechanism closes the disc to prevent reverse movement.
